This One Pot French Onion Pasta is easy comfort food at its finest. All you need is one hour to make this dish that everyone will love.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 3 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • 3 tablespoons sherry vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups beef or chicken bone broth/stock
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 pound uncooked pasta
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated or shredded parmesan cheese (+ more for topping)
  • chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat a large dutch oven or pot to medium heat and add olive oil, onion and 1/2 teaspoon salt
  2. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently, then reduce heat to medium low. Cook for 30 more minutes until onions are caramelized. Stir frequently to keep them from sticking to the bottom of the pot
  3. Add garlic and thyme and let cook for 1 minute, then add wine and sherry vinegar to deglaze and scrape bottom of the pot
  4. Stir in the flour for 1 minute
  5. To the pot stir in broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and pasta. Bring to a boil
  6. Cover, reduce heat to simmer and let cook for 15-20 minutes, until the liquid is absorbed and pasta is cooked to al dente
  7. Turn off heat and stir in heavy cream and parmesan cheese
  8. Serve topped with a sprinkle of parmesan and fresh parsley
