Dunkaroos is childhood nostalgia at its finest. The sugary dip? Delicious. The graham cracker cookies shaped like a kangaroo? Iconic. Those rainbow sprinkles? Fun. When someone pulled that blue pack out of their lunch bag… instant envy. There was truly nothing quite like them. But then they disappeared and we were all left wondering, will they ever come back? Well, they are! The OG Dunkaroos are back on shelves, and they inspired to me give this childhood treat an adult makeover.
Now, I love remaking childhood favorites ā like these Little Debbie Creme Pies and those addictive Lofthouse Sugar Cookies. My Healthier Homemade Dunkaroos Dip is, dare I say, one of the best remakes to come out of my kitchen! You can’t even tell it’s made with good for you ingredients. Your kids will love it, too!
As I said before, this is a great treat for your kids! And they won’t even know it’s made with healthier ingredients. The dip is still rich and sweet ā just like Dunkaroos should be! Even better, there’s some added protein from the Greek yogurt! Now, fellow adults, I know what you’re thinking: How could this measure up to the OG? Trust me on this one, it does.

Ingredients and Substitutions in Healthier Homemade Dunkaroos Dip
Cream Cheese: I use whipped cream cheese, which is lighter and fluffier than regular cream cheese. This gives the dip its original texture. In addition, it’s less calories.
Greek Yogurt: Now, I know that adding yogurt to this might seem odd, but actually it adds creaminess and body to the dip. Plus, you can’t even taste it! We love that protein kick, too.
Almond and Vanilla Extract: The combination of almond and vanilla extract is what lends this dip its cake frosting flavor. However, if you can’t find almond extract, then you can use a full teaspoon of vanilla instead, but it will change the flavor a bit. Additionally, you can omit both and instead use 1 teaspoon cake batter extract.
Sprinkles: What sprinkles should I use? I love these sprinkles because they’re made with vegetables colorants and no artificial dyes. However, you can use whatever colors and kind you like!
What Kind of Cookies Go Best With This?
An essential part of this dip is, of course, those cookies! I love these mini crunchy birthday cake cookies, because they remind me of the OG Dunkaroos cookies! But they are gluten-free, vegan, and free of top 8 allergens (which makes them even more kid-friendly!).
You can also use animal crackers, vanilla wafers, or any cookie favorite! You can even use pieces of your favorite granola bar like I did here (link to a TikTok I’ll be posting).
If you want to make a homemade cookie, then you can bake a batch of my low carb, low sugar, gluten-free sugar cookies and mold them in mini form.
I know this recipe will be a huge hit, so it’s a good thing you can easily double or triple it (;
