If you follow me on Instagram you may sometimes get whiplash from me bouncing from healthy, veggie-filled meals to gluttonous eats full of sugar, fat, and all that good stuff. The truth is, that’s actually how I eat! As cliche as this sounds, it really is all about balance. And when you live in the food capital of the world, it’s a great way to indulge in everything NYC has to offer without over-doing it OR feeling deprived.
The other day was a pretty good example of what that looks like in the life of this Hungry Blonde.
Pretty much every day this week I’ve been on a smoothie bowl kick (even though it’s probably more of a summer type of breakfast, whatever). My go-to combo has been a base of: frozen mixed berries, frozen banana, NuNaturals Collagen, chia seeds, and almond milk. Then I add a mix of Bare Snacks coconut chips and hemp seeds as toppings.
I’m obsessed with these Bare Snacks coconut chips, by the way. They come in a few different flavors and are the best crunchy topping ever! Great for oatmeal, yogurt, ice cream, etc.
I kept things on the lighter side for lunch as well by grabbing a Truffle Green Protein Salad and Summer Kelp Noodles from Juice Press. JP is a great healthy “fast food” option with tons of locations across the city (it can be a bit pricey, though).
And now…the reason I kept things so light during the day 😉 I knew I had a dinner at Sons of Essex, and I wasn’t going to hold back on all of the delicious comfort food they have. Can you tell I was excited?
We enjoyed:
Kale Caesar Salad – brioche croutons, anchovy, parmesan, meyer lemon vinaigrette
Mini Lobster Rolls – fresh lobster, old bay aioli, herbs, crisp brioche
Pan-Roasted Chicken – bone-in chicken breast over cauliflower puree, sautéed brussels sprouts, onions and oyster mushrooms
Essex St Burger – premium black angus beef, cheddar, applewood smoked bacon and paprika mayo on a warm brioche bun topped with Truffle Mac and Cheese
Mushroom Truffle Pizza – three cheese blend, roasted seasonal mushrooms, arugula
Everything was absolutely delicious, but I’d have to say my favorites were the Mini Lobster Rolls and The Truffle Mushroom Pizza.
…and now here I am, sitting on my couch about to eat a bowl of cereal for dinner. Once again, it’s all about that balance, you know? 😉
See you next for the next WIEIAD post! xoxo GG
