Scarpetta is one of the most popular Italian restaurants in New York City (and beyond), and for good reason. With incredible food, service & ambiance it’s easily one of my top 5 favorite restaurants.
I’ve been to Scarpetta dozens of times at their well-known first Meatpacking District location, as well as in Montauk. They just recently moved their NYC location to the James Hotel in NoMad, and the new space is quite larger and incredibly chic.
My favorite dishes at Scarpetta
Crudi
RAW YELLOWTAIL – olio di zenzero & pickled red onion
TUNA ‘SUSCI’ – marinated vegetables & preserved truffle
Primi Piatti
CREAMY POLENTA – fricassee of truffled mushrooms
BRAISED SHORT RIBS OF BEEF – vegetable & farro risotto
Verdure
BRUSSELS SPROUTS – toasted pine nuts, salmoriglio, grana padano
CAULIFLOWER ROMANESCO – cauliflower puree, salmoriglio, herb bread crumbs
Paste
SPAGHETTI – tomato & basil *
SHORT RIB & BONE MARROW AGNOLOTTI – garlic chip & horseradish *
*don’t even bother going unless getting both of these 😉
Pesce
BLACK COD – caramelized fennel & concentrated tomato
SEARED SCALLOPS – celery roots, wild mushrooms, guanciale, grapes
Carne
DUCK BREAST – cabbage, butternut squash puree, pancetta, pickled cranberrries
Dessert
ESPRESSO BUDINO – salted caramel, chocolate biscotti & hazelnut gelato
What I love about Scarpetta is that it’s chic and modern, yet still serves classic and simple Italian dishes. And please trust me – don’t leave without getting the spaghetti and agnolotti.
