For someone who orders a burger just about everywhere she goes, I happen to have been to my fair share of vegetarian/vegan restaurants in the city. There’s just something about the flavors and textures of plant-based meals that I love, not to mention they always seem to be particularly interesting and “out of the box.” It makes sense, because when you’re working without meat you’ve got to get a bit more experimental.
Katy and I enjoyed lunch at NIX the other day, and let’s just say they’ve done it. They’ve managed to make vegetarian/vegan food in a unique new way, but more importantly it was absolutely delicious…dare I say, comfort food-like?
What we ordered:
Cauliflower Tempura with steamed rice + pickled vegetables
Broccoli & Cheddar Stuffed Naan with chive sour cream
Polenta Fries with dill & creamy feta
Charred Brussels Sprouts with romesco vinaigrette, preserved lemon
If you visit NIX, I recommend ordering all of the above! But especially the Cauliflower Tempura and Polenta Fries. I never thought I’d say some of the best dishes I’ve tried so far this year came from a vegetarian restaurant! It’s no wonder they recently got a Michelin Star.
