As much as I love cooking, sometimes after a long day it can be the last thing I feel like doing. But then, also after a long day, there’s nothing better than eating a home cooked meal rather than the same old (probably not-so-healthy) takeout options.
Enter: Umi Kitchen, which is essentially the best of both worlds.
I had previously interacted with Umi Kitchen on Instagram, so when they reached out and asked if I’d like to try their meals I was totally on board.
What’s Umi Kitchen all about? Umi is home cooking, delivered. They connect talented home cooks with families and individuals who crave a home cooked meal. The meals are made in small batches, and more importantly – made with love!
I got two meals from Umi Kitchen, and I was SO happy with both of them.
The first was Veggie Tacos from Becky at @Eat_Yer_Veggies.
3 veggie tacos with sauteed bell pepper, onion, and black beans topped with pico de gallo, radish, cheddar cheese, and Greek yogurt served on fire roasted corn tortillas. Side of Crispy Brussels sprouts with chipotle lime dipping sauce.
The next was Herb Roasted Chicken from Lauren at @EatPrettyNYC.
Free range chicken coated in fresh herbs, spices and hemp seeds, then slow roasted low and slow to give it a tender, fall-off-the-bone texture. Seasonal market veggies are roasted with love while the green goddess sauce brings it all together.
Both dishes were absolutely delicious, and I could really tell that they were…well, made with love! I could actually taste the fact that there was attention put into making my dishes great – not just mass produced and thrown into a delivery box. Not to mention that I could tell the food was healthy and made with real, whole ingredients.
Bottom line: I loved my experience with Umi Kitchen, and I definitely recommend them if you live in Brooklyn! PS. They’ll be in Manhattan starting in August! If you’re an incredible Manhattan-based home cook, you should apply and tell them your cooking story.
