If I’m being completely honest, summer is NOT the easiest season for me to stay active. The combination of the heat, frequent traveling and overall lack of routine makes me less motivated to stick to my normal workout schedule and healthy lifestyle. Anyone with me?
I must say, though, that this summer I’ve been staying much more active and healthier than usual. *Pats self on back.* Here are 4 of my quick tips for sticking to a MAINTAINABLE healthy routine in the summer.
1. Take the pressure off of yourself. For me, this is the biggest thing that has changed from past summers. You don’t have to be “healthy” 24/7, or even as much as you are in other months. It’s so important to simply acknowledge that life happens – seasons change, life circumstances change, and the best way to maintain a healthy lifestyle is to simply go with the flow and remain as consistent as you can, when you can.
2. Balance it out. For me, this summer has included a lot of late night pizza and skipped workouts. But instead of just letting all healthy habits go out the window, I instead do things like have veggie-packed green smoothies for breakfast and squeezing in shorter, more intentional workouts when I can (i.e. lifting weights + HIIT).
3. Treat yourself to some fresh activewear. I mean, what’s more inspiring than a brand new pair of fresh white kicks? 😉 A few months ago I got my hands on these Adidas Element V sneakers, and they’re SO ridiculously comfortable (seriously – they feel like I’m walking/running on clouds).
I’m also a big fan of these Adidas M10 Icon Shorts, especially in the maroon/white color combo. They’re great for staying cool during those summer workouts.
4. Have go-to, healthy crowd-pleasing recipes. This summer I’ve been loving these Grilled Salmon Burgers. They combine two of my favorite foods (burgers and salmon, obvi), and they’re a delicious recipe for grilling that also happen to be filling and healthy – the perfect fuel for after summertime activities. They’re also easy to double and make for a larger group for summer parties/barbecues.
Here’s how to make them.
