If we’re being honest, I’m a total nerd who loves and thrives on having some sort of routine. I can also be a bit of an over-planner, over-thinker, and over-achiever, but let’s not dwell on me, here… 😉
Even when you’re someone like me, though, the thought of getting back into a FALL routine can always be a little intimidating. I think it’s hard to break the stress that whole “back to school” mentality, you know? Summer is such a great time to let loose and be a little more lax when it comes to routine – especially when it comes to a wellness routine – and then before you know it it’s time to be back on our game.
But I have good news for you – re-introducing a wellness routine doesn’t have to be difficult or dreadful. Instead of listening to the rules of how you should do “X” number of workouts a week or eat “Y” calories, here are some of my tips for taking control of your fall wellness routine…without hating your life.
Plan ahead.
The thought of planning can initially be a bit bleh, but what’s great about planning ahead of time is that it takes the guesswork out for you. I personally set aside just about 30 minutes every Sunday to map out my workouts and meals for the week. Those short 30 minutes actually end up saving me so much time/energy thinking about those things later in the week, and it helps me to stay consistent in sticking to my routine.

Don’t overcommit.
I think this is one of the main reasons people get intimidated when starting/reintroducing a wellness routine. You don’t have to go from zero to 100! Instead of telling yourself you have to workout every. Single. Morning. why not start smaller with 2-3 workouts a week? Same thing goes with your diet – instead of dwelling on what you have to cut out, focus on adding healthier options – like 1 vegetable serving per meal).
I also think that making simple healthier SWAPS is much more effective than trying to cut things out. Many are quick to stop drinking as a part of their wellness routine, but I think it’s possible to maintain a healthy/active AND social lifestyle at the same time. An easy place to start is by trading in a sugary cocktail for something like Truly Spiked & Sparkling.
Not only is Truly Spiked & Sparkling super delicious and refreshing, but all flavors have just 100 calories, 2 grams of carbs, 1 gram of sugar, and 5% ABV with no artificial flavors or sweeteners. It’s available in 5 flavors: Lemon & Yuzu, Colima Lime, Grapefruit & Pomelo, Pomegranate, and Sicilian Blood Orange.
Truly Spiked & Sparkling actually doesn’t contain any liquor or spirits, rather the alcohol comes from fermented cane sugar and a hint of fruit. How cool is that?! It’s the perfect light drink to enjoy with your friends, a treat after a hard workout, or while you’re getting ready for a night out on the town.
Make it fun.
On that note, I think it’s so important to do things that make your wellness routine FUN, so that you actually want to stick to it. I love syncing up my wellness routine with my girl friends. Not only do we hold each other accountable, but it makes staying healthy/active more of an activity we can do together, rather than a responsibility.
It’s all about that balance, baby.
At the end of the day, it’s all about that balance. For example:
If you have an after-work dinner, eat a lighter lunch during the day.
If you want to skip exercising over the weekend, squeeze an extra workout in Friday morning.
If you can’t live without a few scoops of ice cream at night, make a big salad or Power Bowl for dinner.
If you want to still enjoy being social and drinking with your friends, choose lighter options that won’t undo all of your hard work.
What ties all of these tips together is that they’re things you can actually stick to and turn into a lifestyle, and isn’t that what wellness is all about?
