Check out the video below to see some benefits I’ve experienced since adopting a protein-rich diet.
My Favorite High Protein Snack Ideas
1: Savory Cottage Cheese Bowls
Cottage cheese gets a bad rap, but I think if prepared correctly it can be a delicious snack that packs in a ton of protein. To really get that protein-kick, opt for a whole milk cottage cheese. It’s creamier, thicker, and its macros ensure you’ll be satisfied. My favorite brand is Good Culture. Some combinations I like:
- “Taco Dip”: Simply layer cottage cheese, salsa, and guacamole, then top with red onion and sliced cucumber. Serve with tortilla chips!
- In a bowl, add cottage cheese, hummus, 1/2 of an avocado and sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning. Then dip in crackers.
2: Loaded Greek Yogurt Bowls AKA “Sundaes”
If you love sweet snacks, then this is the one for you. To make my “sundaes,” you’ll need Greek yogurt. Now, you can use flavored Greek yogurt, but I personally love taking a plain Greek yogurt and adding either cocoa powder, PB Fit or protein powder. In my opinion, it lends to an even thicker, mousse-like consistency that makes these bowls like dessert! If you find it lacking in sweetness, then you can also add in some monk fruit sweetener or honey. Finally, add your favorite toppings. Some of my favorite toppings are:
- cereal or granola
- nuts
- chocolate chips
- nut butter
- fruit
3: Protein Drinks
Now, when it comes to getting your protein in, I think protein drinks are the easiest, best bang-for-your-buck source. Plus, they come in lots of flavors, so you won’t get bored. I also love using protein drinks as replacements for “milk” like in cereal, smoothies and even coffee! My favorite protein drinks are:
4: Protein Oatmeal
If you follow my Instagram Stories, then you know I LOVE my protein oatmeal. It’s such a hearty and delicious way to start the day. But, I’ve learned that not all protein powders work well (or taste good) in oatmeal. I highly recommend sticking to PE Science Cake Pop protein powder, PE Science Snickerdoodle protein powder, or PE Science Protein4Oats (code GRACIE for discount). Trust me, I’ve tried a ton and these work the best. How I make my protein oats:
- Combine 1/3 cup quick oats and 2/3 cup water (or nondairy milk)
- Cook oats on stove top or in microwave
- When done mix in 1 scoop of protein powder
- Add any of your favorite toppings like nut butter, nuts, chocolate chips, fruit
5: Turkey & Cheese Roll Ups
It doesn’t get much easier when you want a quick and savory snack! Simply roll up your favorite turkey (or any deli meats) and cheese, then enjoy! You can also add in a smear of mayo, mustard, or pickles. If you like this snack idea, then check out my Air-Fried Snack Wraps.
6: Chicken Salad on Crackers
Chicken salad is easy to make at the beginning of the week and keep in the fridge for a quick snack that doesn’t require heating up. Here is my favorite easy chicken salad recipe. Then simply pair with your favorite crackers and/or vegetable crudite. If you want some variety or aren’t a fan of chicken salad, then can switch it up by making tuna salad or egg salad.
7: Protein Bars
Now, let’s be real, there are some pretty gross protein bars on the market. But luckily for you I’ve tried just about all of them! The good news? There are some really tasty bars out there. Here are my favorite protein bars:
8: Protein Coffee
As I mentioned above, adding a protein drink as “creamer” to your coffee is such an easy (and delicious) way to sneak more protein in. I usually use a vanilla flavored protein drinks, but others can be delicious as well. A chocolate protein drink makes your coffee like a mocha! I’ve found Iconic protein drinks to be my favorite mixed with coffee.
9: Homemade Trail Mix
Trail Mix is a great, crunchy protein snack that also happens to be plant-based. However, some store-bought trail mixes can have lots of added sugars. Good thing it’s super simple to make your own! Here’s how to make your own trail mix: In a bowl I combine sea salt crunchy broad beans with pumpkin seeds, macadamia nuts, walnuts, chopped dates and chocolate chips. Now, this snack is not the highest protein option on this list, but better it’s better than grabbing a handful of store-bought trail mix or chips.
10: Protein Smoothies
What’s great about a smoothie is it’s not only an easy way to get more protein in, but it also packs tons of other nutrients from fruits, veggies and superfood add-ins. Plus, this protein snack can be made even simpler by meal-prepping your smoothie combination at the beginning of the week, putting all of the components in a freezer-friendly container, and then all you have to do is take it out and blend! My go-to smoothie combo is:
- Frozen mixed berries
- Handful spinach
- 1/2 frozen banana
- Maca powder
- Chia seeds
- PB Fit + one of the following protein sources: Protein drink, Protein powder, or Greek yogurt
11: Protein Peanut Butter Cups
Protein Peanut Butter Cups are the recipe I turn to when I want something sweet, but I still want to get my protein in. Plus, they leave you feeling energized and satisfied. I mean, who said candy can’t be made healthy-ish?! This treat is a better-for-you twist on everyone’s favorite — Reese’s! Find out all the details to make them here.
