Ever since learning how easy it easy to make your own nut butter, it’s become more difficult for me to justify shelling out $10+ for those fancy-shmancy nut butters (though I do love them, nonetheless).
Not only is making your own nut butter much more inexpensive, but you can get so creative with the combinations! I love the addition of coconut in nut butters (like in my Coconut Walnut Butter) so this time I whipped up a similar batch.
This one, though? It’s all about the chocolate.
What you’ll need:
- 1 cup shredded coconut flakes (I used unsweetened)
- 1 cup cashews (I used raw)
- 2-4 tablespoons of coconut oil OR maple syrup *
- 2 tablespoons cocoa
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
How to make:
Put cashews and coconut flakes in a food processor (I suggest using a mini one – they combine nut butters best). Process for a few minutes until mixture starts to get creamy. Then add the oil OR maple syrup (depending on whether you want a sweeter nut butter or not). Process for another minute, add the cocoa butter + cinnamon, and process for one last minute. Continue until you reach desire consistency. I like mine with a little bit of crunch.
Serve on toast, with fruit, or even enjoy for a healthy dessert 😉
