Cauliflower Cream Sauce is a dairy-free, plant-based cream sauce recipe. There are tons of variations, so you’ll never get tired of using this sauce!
Now, over the years I’ve developed quite the passion for making sauces out of vegetables. There’s my creamy butternut squash sauce and sweet potato “cheese,” but I have to say my favorite will always be my Cauliflower Cream Sauce (AKA dairy-free Alfredo sauce).
Yep, I’m shameless that girl who is obsessed with cauliflower. But can you blame me?? The unassuming vegetable is so versatile and the perfect base for a creamy sauce that makes you wonder how the heck there isn’t any dairy in it. It’s also vegan, keto, paleo, gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free…yep, it covers ALL the bases.
I also love this particular sauce because there are so many ways you can switch it up. I share these variations often on Instagram, so I figured it was time to do a round up here on the blog, for your saving pleasure.
Below you’ll find the base recipe for my Cauliflower Cream Sauce, along with some of my favorite variations.
Cauliflower Cream Sauce (AKA dairy-free Alfredo)
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups riced cauliflower
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- salt & pepper to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2-1 cup liquid (non-dairy milk, broth or milk)
- 1/2 teaspoon nutritional yeast (optional)
Directions:
- Cook cauliflower rice in a stovetop pan over medium heat* with olive oil, salt, pepper & garlic powder. You can add any other spices you like too.
- Mix frequently and cook for 5-6 minutes or until translucent.
- Transfer to a food processor or blender. Add liquid (1/2 cup to start) and nutritional yeast.
- Add more liquid as needed and blend until smooth consistency.
- Serve over your favorite pasta, vegetables, use as a casserole sauce – the possibilities are endless!
*You can also steam the cauliflower, but I prefer the flavor from cooking it stovetop.
Variation: Tomato Cream Sauce
If you want to make this into Tomato Cream Sauce, then add 1/4-1/3 cup of your favorite tomato sauce (I love Rao’s) and use less liquid.
Variation: Spinach Cream Sauce
If you want to make this Spinach Cream Sauce, then add a handful of fresh spinach or thawed frozen spinach to pack an extra punch of nutrients and get this beautiful green color. Truthfully, you won’t even taste it 😉
Variation: Creamy Cheese Sauce
If you want to make the sauce a little richer, then you can add a handful of your favorite shredded cheese (regular or non-dairy). If you want to do this, then make the sauce as usual. Afterwards, transfer back into a pan, and then add the cheese and heat it until the cheese melts through.
As always if you make this Cauliflower Cream Sauce or any of my other recipes, be sure to tag me on Instagram @hungry.blonde so I can see how it turned out 🙂 xoxo GG
