I’ve been into wellness and skincare since my late teenage years, but I must say that haircare is a bit of a new world for me. For so long I only care about how my hair looked, but these days I’m just as (if not more) concerned with the health of my hair. And since taking the plunge into the world of platinum blonde about 6 months ago, giving my hair extra TLC has been a top priority.
Here are 3 haircare tips I’ve started to see popping up as trends that I’ve been implementing more of in my own life.
2020 haircare trends
Scalp care
It’s becoming more and more clear that healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. Our scalps can get a lot of build up, so it’s important to do regular scalp scrubs to get rid of any build up that might be keeping your hair from growing in a clean, pH-balanced environment.
I’ve been using this Not Your Mother’s Naturals Activated Bamboo Charcoal & Purple Moonstone Restore & Reclaim Scalp Scrub for a few months now. It’s a pre-wash gentle exfoliant made with natural jojoba wax beads that works to detoxify and cleanse the scalp while absorbing impurities for a balanced PH (no sulfate surfactants, no silicones, no parabens, no dyes, no gluten, no phthalates).
FYI – you can find the scalp scrub at Whole Foods!
Get healthy hair from the inside out
Hair supplements are pretty popular right now, but the best nutrients still come directly from the foods we eat. Of course there’s the basics like drinking lots of water and eating fruits & vegetables, but there are also other foods that can promote hair growth and health. Some of these are: fatty fish like salmon, bone broth, eggs, avocado, nuts, seeds and even oysters.
Embrace the natural hair look
The au naturale look is IN, and your un-heated hair is going to thank you for it. When it comes to letting your hair air dry, less is more. Here are a couple of natural, tossled styles I’m loving right now:
First thing’s first when it comes to air-drying: don’t over-dry your hair with a towel because that can cause breakage. And then depending on your hair type, try not to over-brush it either (for me, that can make my hair dry frizzier).
On damp hair I generously spray Not Your Mother’s Naturals Royal Honey & Kalahari Desert Melon Repair + Protect Leave-in conditioner. It helps reconstruct damaged hair and keeps your hair soft and hydrated as it air dries.
Then if I want to add some extra texture I use the Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray. It makes my hair look like I have those natural waves after getting out of the ocean!
