Repeat after me: healthy habits do not have to be overwhelming! It doesn’t have to mean eating zero sugar or spending and hour in the gym, and there’s no “right way” for everyone. Here are some simple daily healthy habits that I incorporate into my daily routine that aren’t overwhelming but can really add up and make a big difference in how I feel.
#RealLifeWellness is all about finding what works for you as an individual, and more importantly habits that you can actually maintain for the rest of your life. I hope this inspires you to implement some into your own life!
10 simple daily healthy habits
1. Drink a full glass of water immediately upon waking up. Leave the glass on your nightstand so it’s right there when you wake up in the morning. A great way to get a head start on your water for the day.
2. Wear blue light blocking glasses. We spend SO much time in front of screens now, and that probably won’t change in our lifetime. I have my glasses on throughout the day to protect my eyes. You can get them on Amazon + they’re very affordable.
3. Sit up straight. On that same note, I recently realized just how much I hunch over when I’m at my desk or on my phone. Using a laptop stand has really helped, but I’ve also just become mindful to keep my back straight and shoulders back. It was a little uncomfortable at first, but now it is becoming more natural. Having good posture is so important!
4. Five minutes of stretching. I do this in the morning, right when I get out of bed. Stretching doesn’t have that “instant gratification” of working out, but I always try to remember how important it is for healthy joints and posture as we age.
5. Five minutes of meditating. You’d be surprised by how much just 5 minutes of sitting in silence and stillness can help you throughout the entire day. Meditation can rewire your brain and has so many other benefits. If you don’t know where to start, I suggest trying the Headspace app.
6. CBD drops for better sleep. Not going to lie – I was a total skeptic when I first learned about CBD, but wow – it really helps me get an amazing night’s sleep. Previously I would always wake up in the middle of the night, but now I sleep through for at least 8 hours and wake up feeling so rested. I’ve been using Veritas Farms for 4+ months and really love it.
7. Make sure at least 1 meal is packed with vegetables. Let’s be real, sometimes it’s impossible to have vegetables in every single meal. But at least one…that’s more manageable. I love packing a ton of veggies in to one big “power bowl” – roasted or air fried is my favorite way to cook them – then I toss it all with a favorite dressing.
8. Gua Sha facial massage. I’ve tried just about every facial massage tool out there (jade roller, rose quartz roller, ice roller, etc.) and the gua sha is my favorite x10000. I *actually* see a difference in my face when I use it! It lifts, decreases puffiness, & is supposed to aid in lymphatic drainage. You’ll want to use a facial oil with it so it glides well – otherwise is uncomfortable and can’t irritate your skin. This is the gua sha I use (just $10 on Amazon) and I learned how to use it by following this gua sha tutorial.
9. Keep my supplements simple. These days it seems like there are 820458 supplement options, right?? I’m not saying other supplements aren’t always important, but if you’re eating a healthy & balanced diet chances are you don’t need all that many. For me I at least make sure to always take a probiotic and a comprehensive multivitamin. Right now for both I’ve been using Ancient Nutrition. You can use code ‘hungryblonde’ for 20% off.
10. Walk as much as possible. Walking is seriously one of the most underrated healthy habits. It requires zero equipment, you don’t have to block off time from your day to do it, and you can even stack other habits on top of it like listening to a podcast, enjoying nature, meditating, call a friend, etc. As someone who lives in NYC it’s definitely easier for me than most to get steps in, but embrace the opportunities to walk during your lunch break, park a little further from your destination, or even take the stairs from time to time;)
