Let’s cut right to the chase here – American Cut is one of my favorite restaurants in the city.
My best friend Sydney was the first to introduce AC to my friends and I. True story – she decided on it as a place to take her parents when they were in town, based mostly on the fact that it looked like they had comfortable chairs. She was right about that.
But American Cut is more than just comfortable seating. It’s one of those restaurants that just seems to get everything right – from the service, to the ambiance, and of course – the food. It’s that across-the-board excellence that makes me a huge fan of LDV Hospitality & Chef Marc Forgione restaurants in general.
My top picks at American Cut
Plank Smoked Old Fashioned
“Famous” Everything Biscuits
Steak Knife Wedge Salad
Diamond Jim Brady Oysters
Chili Lobster with Texas Toast
New York City Cut
^^ both charred medium rare – and try all of the sauces!
American Cut burger (lunch)
Wild Mushrooms + Polenta
Twice Baked Truffle Potatoes
Cauliflower with Sauce Proposal (weirdly one of my favorite dishes in the city – trust me on this one) *
Beef Fat Fries
Sausage ‘n Peppas
Candy Bar Cake
Cracker Jack Sundae
* Only at the Tribeca location
I’ve been to the Tribeca location a few times, and just visited the Midtown location for the first time last week. While the Midtown location is larger (especially the bar area, which I can’t wait to go back for after-work drinks!) it has the same look and feel that I grew to love at the original Tribeca location. The only other difference I can seem to find is that AC Midtown doesn’t have my beloved cauliflower side (ha).
I know this is quite the bold statement, but if I had to pick ONE restaurant in the city to recommend to people, American Cut is it…especially if you have friends/family visiting in town. It’s an incredible dining experience with food that everyone will love.
